Embryo Donation versus Egg Donation

Just to set things straight...

A recent article in the Washington Post notes some inaccurate statistics regarding donated embryos, as it confuses embryo donation with egg (oocyte) donation. Just to set things straight, the numbers quoted in the 2003 and 2010 statements, according to the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), are for Donor Oocytes, not embryos. It is confusing, as the SART website labels the stats "Fresh Embryos" and "Thawed Embryos". These labels actually refer to the embryos created from Donor Oocytes. The statements would be accurate if the words "embryos" were replaced with "oocytes".
