Fertility Preservation Network Launches Free Apple App

Sept. 9, 2011 - ReproTech, Ltd., a cryobank specializing in long-term storage of human reproductive tissue (sperm, eggs, embryos and ovarian and testicular tissue), announced the launch of its free Fertility Preservation App for Apple devices at the National Coalition of Oncology Nurse Navigators' annual conference today.

The Free App is available for download to Apples' iPhone, iPod and iPad by searching Apple's App Store for ReproTech or Fertility Preservation. A demonstration of the App may be viewed on YouTube by searching for ReproTech or Fertility Preservation. Links to the video and the download on the App Store are also available on ReproTech's website.  ReproTech's Fertility Preservation App provides oncology professionals with easy to find and up to date information for their newly diagnosed cancer patients. The Free App includes:

  • Information on Fertility Preservation and its options for men, women and children, including Resources and Websites
  • Locations of local fertility centers in ReproTech's nationwide network which offer cryopreservation services by providing access to websites, maps, email  addresses and phone numbers
  • Information on the OverNite Male™ Kit, ReproTech's "sperm banking by air" kit, for males who are unable to visit a fertility center due to illness or location.

ReproTech chose to launch its App during the National Coalition of Oncology Nurse Navigators' (NCONN) Annual Conference to emphasize the importance of the work of nurse navigators. ReproTech's display at the conference includes demonstrations of the App by its staff using iPads and iPhones, flyers describing the App, distribution of their Fertility Preservation 101 educational booklets and additional giveaways.

From NCONN's Executive Board,"NCONN is thrilled to once again have ReproTech represented at our annual conference. Fertility Preservation is an important part of oncology and survivorship care. The launch of this new and free app will open the door much wider for healthcare professionals to learn about and explore the many fertility preservation options available for their patients."

The App has been selected as a finalist for the Member's Choice Award at the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) Annual Meeting's Communications, Advertising and Marketing (CAM) Awards. The App was also selected to be presented as an Electronic Poster during the 2011 Oncofertility Consortium Conference poster session.

According to the American Cancer Society, 140,000 men and women of childbearing age are newly diagnosed with cancer each year. There often is a small window of time for them to preserve their fertility; therefore, access to cryopreservation services is extremely important. ReproTech's ongoing campaign to promote Fertility Preservation awareness and education stresses the significance of healthcare providers discussing options for Fertility Preservation with patients at diagnosis. Both the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) recommend the education of oncology patients about the options available to preserve their fertility.

ReproTech, Ltd.'s Fertility Preservation Network is comprised of top fertility centers around the U.S. and Caribbean. This growing network of centers provides much needed fertility preservation services to cancer patients prior to the initiation of oncology treatments. The Network now includes members in 34 states and the Caribbean. Financial Assistance programs are available through ReproTech, Ltd.'s Verna's Purse programs or LIVESTRONG's Sharing Hope programs.
