Although there are a few different Fertility Preservation options for women, timing is usually the factor that determines the method of use. The reasons for a woman to consider Fertility Preservation include cancer treatment, military deployment, and those who wish to postpone childbearing for medical or personal reasons.
Embryo cryopreservation is the most widely used and trusted method of fertility preservation, but oocyte (egg) cryopreservation is rapidly increasing due to recent data and success rates. The ASRM lifted the “experimental” label from oocyte cryopreservation in late 2012. Ovarian tissue cryopreservation is considered an experimental method of fertility preservation, but it is offered at several clinics in the U.S. This procedure can be quickly performed by a reproductive endocrinologist and does not delay chemotherapy. Ovarian tissue cryostorage is the main fertility preservation option for prepubescent girls to freeze ovarian tissue.
ReproTech’s Fertility Preservation Network consists of fertility centers across the U.S. that offer cryopreservation/fertility preservation services.
